Who We Are

The church here in the desert is a smallish congregation of between 60 and 120 people – from all walks of life, who wish to come together to find ways of modeling the divine today. We are open and inclusive–as everyone says they are–but have a radical call to acceptance and celebration of human diversity.

We are a member of Metropolitan Community Churches–started in 1968 by our founder, Troy Perry, to tackle exclusion and hatred within the Christian church–and we have felt a strong, but not exclusive, call to ministry within the LGBTQ community ever since. We are active in over 20 countries.

We are a community of people seeking God – and we are open to whatever God truly is. We aspire to, and seek to follow the teaching of Jesus who has been described as ‘very God and very man’. Each soul shall have a unique journey, and we gather to prosper and celebrate our own faith, and the faith of our brothers and sisters. We seek to cherish each soul no matter who or what they are. There are no favorites or mistakes in the work of God. We cleave to the words of the prophet Micah ‘He has told you, O mortal, what is good; And what does the Almighty require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?’
