Who We Are

The church here in the desert is a smallish congregation of between 60 and 100 people pre-COVID, currently 40 – 70. We are from all walks of life, but we are all people who wish to come together to find ways of growing closer to God. We are open to all, and unlike many churches have a commitment to viewpoint diversity as well as other types of diversity.

We have straight people, gay people, trans people, people from every social and economic background, we have democrats, republicans, and independents. We have people from different nations and cultures, and we have members in other parts of the country and other parts of the world. We have people from many faith traditions and none, but we stress that we are a proudly creedal community that seeks ways of being both welcoming and faithful.

We are a member of Metropolitan Community Churches – started in 1968 by our founder, Rev Troy Perry, to build a Christian church home for traditionally excluded people – and we have felt a strong, but not exclusive, call to minister to sexual minorities ever since. MCC is active in over 20 countries.

We are a community of people seeking God. We aspire to and seek to follow the teaching of Jesus who has been described as ‘very God and very man’. Each soul shall have a unique journey, and we gather to prosper and celebrate our own faith, and the faith of our brothers and sisters. We seek to cherish each soul no matter who or what they are. There are no favorites or mistakes in the work of God. God has no orphans.

We are the primary means of financial support for a wonderful church in Brazil – ICM Rio de Janeiro, and their church plants in other parts of that beautiful nation. We also vigorously support the work of Metropolitan Communities and their medical mission in Uganda with our good friend Dr David Williams.
